Social and economic development of women is essential for overall economic development of any society or a country. During the last two decades, increasing numbers of Indian women entered the field of entrepreneurship and also they are gradually changing the face of business both literally and figuratively. But still they have not capitalized their potential in India the way it should be.
This paper looks into opportunities and challenges that Indian women face in the entrepreneurial society; how to boost women entrepreneurial skills; what are the reasons that propel women to undertake such profession. It also seeks to find what hinders women entrepreneurship and what measures to take to remove such obstacles. In general, the paper examines various motivating and de-motivating internal and external factors affecting women entrepreneurship in India.
The paper compares early stage entrepreneurial male & female activity among Nordic countries with the same of USA. It also compares various programs& schemes developed by Nordic countries & agencies that provide support to them. The authors conclude by stating that the Nordic countries need a framework for policy learning to develop a proper a policy mix towards promoting women entrepreneurship. He suggests that this policy framework to needs to:
identify the reasons for women for involving themselves in entrepreneurial activities
define the factors of hindrance for women entrepreneurship
determine the possible success factors for women in such entrepreneurial activities.
