SEAMEO CHAT is an organ of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) and acts as a centre for history and tradition of Southeast Asian countries. It aims to develop a greater regional identity through research, human resource development, education and linkages. Activities include:
- raising public awareness in the three levels of education - basic education, higher education and continuing education for the community
- developing educational curricula and programmes to meet the challenges of the contemporary situation
- enhancing cooperation by developing linkages and networks among relevant institutions and agencies
- establishing a resource centre and databases, and to facilitate the dissemination and exchange of information among Southeast Asian countries
