LACEA was established in 1992 by a group of economists with a common interest in economic issues in Latin America and the Caribbean. LACEA aims to encourage greater professional interaction and dialogue among researchers and policy-makers. The association sponsors programs, meetings, conferences and other activities that foster scholarly exchange among individuals and organizations concerned with the economies of the region. LACEA focuses on four main research areas for which it has established four networks working on the following topics:
- poverty and inequality
- political economy
- international economics and finance
- regional integration
Since 2000, LACEA has been publishing the journal Economia, which is a policy journal where new theories or techniques are applied to policy questions. The journal includes papers on issues that are both at the forefront of the policy agenda and of broad interest to countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. |
