As one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, ECLAC purpose is to contribute to the economic and social development of Latin America, coordinate actions directed towards this end, and reinforce economic relationships among the countries and with the other nations of the world. ECLAC undertakes research, formulates and promotes development cooperation activities in the region.

natural resources and the environment
social conditions and equity
agriculture, forestry and fishing
ECLAC cooperates with other agencies and governments on a range of different projects. It also provides training and offers courses on various economic and social issues of the region.
ECLAC has many different publications including a statistical yearbook for Latin America and the Caribbean showing economic and social trends in the countries of the region. Other publications include economic surveys, economy overviews and downloadable working papers. The website also provides information about projects, conferences and regional meetings and training courses. It is available in Spanish, English, Portuguese and French.
