The Centre for Bhutan Studies is an autonomous research institute that promotes research and scholarship on Bhutan. The center aims to:
- conduct evaluative studies on existing governmental programs and provide policy recommendations
- conduct inter-disciplinary studies on social, cultural, and economic aspects, with a contemporary emphasis
- act as a clearing-house of information on various studies and research conducted at home and abroad
- host lectures and seminars on local themes by local and foreign scholars
The center's activities include:
- conducting multi-disciplinary research on Bhutan's economy, history, religion, society, polity, and culture
- promoting scholarship through publications and web dissemination
- organizing national and international conferences, seminars, and lecture series
- conducting ethnographic studies of rural communities, documenting oral tradition, history, and culture
Among its publications, the Center publishes the bi-annual Journal of Bhutan Studies and a related monogram series. Past copies of the Journal and other publications are available online. |
