GDNet Online Community Groups

The GDNet Community Groups are online collaborative workspaces that provide groups of researchers with a range of communication tools in one shared space. Research teams can use their Community Group to upload and read project documents, view photos, access their group calendar and participate in online discussions. This exciting new service is being piloted with participants of our GDNet research communication workshops and we plan to make the GDNet Community Groups available to all of our members later this year.

GDNet Research Communications Training for Awards & Medals Finalists

As part of the GDNet series of Research Communication workshops, a special two-day Communications Training for Awards and Medals finalists is to be held in Bogota on the 11th and 12th January, 2011, in collaboration with CommsConsult.

It is increasingly not enough for scholars to be methodologically thorough and to produce robust and objective research. To be effective, they must also be competent communicators who can convey their research results to both policymakers and the media in order to engage in wider development debates.

The two-day GDNet Communications Training for Awards and Medals finalists aims to strengthen their capacity to both identify the headlines of their research and make it accessible for a range of different audiences. The climax of the training sessions will be the presentation of each finalist's research in a confident and engaging style to the other scholars at the conference and the judging committee.

The Training will showcase examples of inspirational speakers and work with participants to develop the key principles of effective communication in the written and spoken word. Video-critiquing and peer-review methods will be used to improve the styles and build the confidence of participants to present their work in different forums, including at the Conference Ceremony later in the week.
