Los Andes University was founded in 1948 as an autonomous, private and non-partisan institution. It strives to strengthen pluralism, diversity, dialog, debate, tolerance and respect for the values, ideals and beliefs of its members. The university's mission is to form professionals that contribute to the country’s cultural and economical improvement and also to strengthen the values of coexistence and social peace. Among the disciplines of the social sciences the University has four schools (Business Administration, Social Sciences, Law and Economics), the School of Government Alberto Lleras Camargo and an interdisciplinary center. Through its schools and faculties Los Andes University offers library services and promotes research activities. The research centers of the university are:
