Rethinking social insurance in Egypt: An empirical study

GDNet

The focus of this paper is to analyze the social insurance system in Egypt and itsdeterminants among workers. Social Security Coverage is studied in several dimensions which are the probability of social insurance coverage among workers taking into account the difference between wage worker and non-wage workers; the risk of underreporting insurable wages to the social security authorities; and the risk of being without social security in formal firms. The descriptive analysis shows that acquiring social insurance coverage is a dynamic process over time.
